Hello from Malaysia,
I'm back because of the coronavirus pandemic. I'm in self-quarantine and trying to study Japanese again. I was looking through old poems that I used to discuss in class with my Japanese teacher Mizuki-sensei and came across this one.
It summarises where I'm at mentally and where I want to be in a relationship.
The Japanese is much more beautiful and lyrical than the English especially because I translated it and thus will never be able to do it justice haha.
Enjoy 🌸

An attempted translation:
To exist as a couple is actually
for an individual and another individual,
to exist independently, together.
If one can be happy on their own
then if two such people come together
their happiness becomes twofold.
One who is able to think independently,
act independently,
can go on living even on their own.
Two people with that kind of power
can build one great happiness together.
This, I think about
on my own.
